My First Blog

Hello, World!

I am a brand new blogger and this is my first blog. I am pretty excited about this new adventure. I really have no idea how to do this, but my friend, Julie, suggested this would be a great way for me to express myself. It seems pretty easy so far. I plan to use this space to share my stories and shout out my opinions which are many and very, very important. Here is my first opinion on my fantastic new blog...hope you find it informative...enjoy...

My boyfriend, Mac, takes me to Little Italy here in Cleveland once a month to try a new restaurant. Once we try them all we will be spending a weekend at the Baricelli Inn, but I digress...

Last night we went to Il Bacio. It is fairly new to the area; I believe it's about a year old. This place has become my new favorite restaurant in just one little visit! I really don't want this to sound like a restaurant critique, so I will just tell you what we ordered.

Arugula Salad
Grilled Scampi Appetizer (from the specials menu)
Salmon Linguine
Filet with grilled red peppers and onions
Tiramisu
Peach Sorbet
Cappuccino (decaf)

Every dish was absolutely wonderful and cooked to perfection! The salad was refreshing, the vegetables were soft and crisp (which I can't really figure out), if you looked up "al dente" in the dictionary a picture of this pasta should be there, and I blacked out with my first bite of the tiramisu. Really, I was in the middle of a sentence and could not think for a second or two after the fluffy yumminess hit my delighted taste buds. Ahhh...it was bliss.

Mac and I like to order two different meals and then share. We mentioned this to our waiter, Gary, who took the liberty of splitting the meals in two for us. I love when restaurants do that. Each serving was just the right amount. It was such a wonderful night. The restaurant is cozy and our waiter was great - he even walked us to the door and told us to come again! I felt like family for, Pete's sake!

Well, my first blog was short and sweet. Please do not be fooled. My stories are generally me getting pissed off by some stupid company and then I have to boycott them. I am exhausted having so many causes. This blog will free me of that! I now have a one stop bitch shop. What a wonderful world...

Hey d! Congrats on the Grand Opening of DeenaWorld!! What an exciting place to visit!

Everything you said about Il Bacio was right on. The food was so good, I even had to eat the frozen peach containing the sorbet... a 1st at Il Bacio... I've left my mark!

Little Italy is such a great place. I had to also mention our brief stop at the Baricelli Inn after Il Bacio, just to check it out. The Manager there - John Minnillo (at least I think he was the manager) was so welcoming, giving us a personal tour through the restaurant, explaining the history of the place, very impressive.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your dirt posted on corporate america, and the lousy service you've shared in your many tales. Give 'em Hell Honey! :-)

Here is a comment I received from my uncle via email. Thanks, Uncle Joe!!

I predict that once you post a story about one of your many encounters with incompetence you will develop a cult following that will spur you to start "Deena's List" which will obliterate Angie's List. You will probably wind up on Oprah imparting your valuable insights and opinions to millions of people.

Hi d, well I just experienced some (IMHO) incredibly poor customer service today, with Sallie Mae.

My son Anthony and I are applying for a college loan for Anthony through Sallie Mae. We called on Tuesday, and gave them our info over the phone. With me as the co-signer, we were pre-approved for the load. But we had to sign the loan application online, so the agent asked me if she should e-mail the instructions to me, or mail them. I said e-mail of course, so I gave her my e-mail address, all is well (or so I thought).

Well I never received the e-mail from Sallie Mae, so I called on Wednesday morning, and spoke to a different agent, explaining that I did not receive the e-mail. She asked for my e-mail address, and even though I spelled it out for her several times, she just could Not get it right. After the 10th or so try, she finally got it, she also asked for my SSN# and birthdate, even though I gave that to the gal I spoke to on Tuesday.

So I finally get the e-mail of instructions on Wednesday. I go online, spend 10 minutes or so entering a bunch of info, Submit, and get an error message that the info I provided does not match what they have for me. I call them back, and they're gone for the holidays (NY Eve).

So I called this morning and spoke to another gal. She tells me that the problem is that they have my birth year as 1952, rather than 1962. Can they just correct the typo for me? No, of course not. I have to Fax in a copy of my Driver's License to them, provide all kinds of info, and it should take 1-3 business days for them to make the correction. Are you friggin kidding me? So I have to go to the library, make a copy of my driver's license, drive all the way to my parents house to use their fax machine, and waste most of my afternoon on this! And I have to wait until they make the correction, before I can proceed with the loan application process.

I told the agent to avoid such a mistake from occurring which results in such an Inconvenient resolution process, why didn't the agent that I spoke with on Tuesday/Wednesday verify that she had the correct birthdate entered, or why wasn't an e-mail sent to me with the info, asking for verification, or some other method to avoid typos from delaying the process. Or isn't the fact that I gave them my SSN#, Anthony's SSN# and the Loan confirmation# over the phone Enough to prove that I am who I say that I am, in order for them to fix my birthdate in their system? And if they didn't need a copy of my driver's license to start the loan application over the phone on Tuesday, why do they need one now in order to fix my birthyear?? Friggin ridiculous. I'm pissed!!

Thanks for letting me vent...

Happy New Year!! Mac
